You don’t have to throw away your old appliances if they’re still in good working order, but as they start to wear out, replace them with one of the super-efficient appliances, and enjoy a smaller energy bill while reducing your carbon footprint. 

Be Aware of Energy Usage

It’s all too easy to leave lights on and electrical equipment plugged in, but by being aware that you’re wasting energy you’ll find ways to reduce your usage. 

The same applies to that leaking tap or pipe you’ve been meaning to fix. It might seem insignificant but it all adds up over time. 

Recycle Everything

Almost everything can be recycled now, so take the time to find out about your neighbourhood recycling program where you’ll find you can take a lot of the things you’d normally just throw away. 

If something is still useful but you no longer need or want it, you can donate it to charity, a friend or family member, or consider repurposing unwanted items. Gardens are a great place to use old containers as pots or get creative and use other items as interesting and unexpected garden features.

Also make use of passive design in your home. Large windows facing the sun can warm rooms during the day in winter, and well-fitting curtains prevent heat from escaping at night.  

Only heat and cool the areas you’ll be using most, install insulation in the ceiling, walls and floor, and close doors to rooms not being used.
